The Toronto Blue Jays face the Cincinnati Reds in an early afternoon game on Monday. It’s a holiday, so we have lots of early games today. Both the Blue Jays and Reds won on Sunday, but both also lost 2 of 3 in their weekend series. The Reds struggled all weekend against the Cardinals, while the Jays fell to the NL’s best team, the Brewers. On Monday, the starting pitching matchup favors the Reds, but that has just created a plus-money situation for us where we can back the better team at favorable odds. My pick is the Blue Jays on the Money Line on Monday afternoon.

Hunter Greene is the far better pitcher than Chris Bassitt. Nevertheless, the Jays can compete here. Greene is a dominant strikeout pitcher, but the Blue Jays strike out less than any team in the league. Greene will usually give up a few runs, and if the Jays put it in play, I like their chances. Bassitt is just kind of okay at this stage of his career, and you can more or less pencil him in for 5 innings and 2 or 3 runs. But that is enough to give the Jays’ offense a chance most nights. I don’t love the Cincy bullpen, and that might be the difference in the game late. The Blue Jays are better all the way around, and I like taking the opportunity presented by having Greene on the mound for the Reds.
