Nationals vs Mets Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Nationals and Mets are set to begin a three-game series at Citi Field on Friday night. It will be the final head-to-head series between the teams for the 2025 season. The pitching matchup on Friday night could lead to a high-scoring game. A pair of inexperienced rookies are set to battle on the mound, as Washington’s Andrew Alvarez and New York’s Brandon Sproat will get the starting nods from their respective managers. Both pitchers have posted strong numbers in limited sample sizes, but it’s hard to trust that both will be on their game in this one.
Alvarez will make his fourth career start. He’s posted a strong 1.15 ERA and 0.85 WHIP through 15.2 innings, but New York’s veteran lineup is capable of giving him some trouble. This will also be his second career road start, with the first one being his shortest outing of the season. Alvarez went just 4.2 innings after allowing 3 hits, 3 walks, and 2 earned runs on Sept. 7 against the Marlins. Sproat will be making his third career stats, and he has allowed just 9 hits in his first 12 career innings at the big league level. The New York offense hasn’t given him much run support thus far, but that could change when going up against Alvarez. All in all, look to the over.
