Nationals vs Mets Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Washington Nationals will try to play spoiler against the New York Mets on Saturday afternoon. The Mets, who have to keep winning with multiple teams chasing them, just kept on scoring on Friday night, ultimately winning 12-6. The Nationals have now lost 5 in a row and 8 of 10, and they are mostly just getting those final reps for the young guys. Because the money line is unplayable by itself in this spot, we will either need to put it in a parlay or risk the run line. Given the urgency for the Mets and the bullpen deficiencies of the Nats, I am cool with that.
We have two talented young arms on the mound in Cade Cavalli and Nolan McLean. McLean has been outstanding for the Mets, and he is probably their best starter at the moment. I expect him to cut through the young Nats’ lineup who will be seeing him for the first time. Cavalli has also been solid for the Nationals, even if it took him longer than expected to make it to the Big League club. Washington wants Cavalli to be an anchor in the rotation for years to come, and they are just not going to let him push the pitch count very high in his last couple of starts. This is a 5-and-dive situation, and then things get messy with the Washington bullpen. The Mets should be able to score plenty late, and I think they will secure the cover.
Nationals vs Mets Prediction: Mets -1.5 (-115) available at the time of publishing. Playable at that number.
