Nationals vs Mets Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Washington Nationals will look to steal a series win against the New York Mets on Sunday and spoil their division rivals’ playoff hopes. The Mets currently hold a one-game lead in the NL Wild Card standings and will send left-hander Sean Manaea to the mound. Manaea enters with a 2-3 record and a 5.40 ERA, coming off his first win since July 23.
For the Nationals, Jake Irvin will get the start, entering with a 8-13 record and a 5.76 ERA. Irvin has dropped six straight outings, posting a 8.79 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 28.2 innings pitched. Offensively, the Mets are averaging 5.0 runs per game in their last 10 compared to the Nationals 3.2. Unfortunately for the Nationals, I don’t think they’ll be playing spoiler in today’s matchup, especially with Irvin on the mound. I expect the Mets offense to get to Irvin early in this one and secure a much needed win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Nationals vs Mets prediction: Mets -1.5 (-130) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
