Washington Nationals vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 08/22/25

The Philadelphia Phillies are on a 4-game winning streak and will welcome the Washington Nationals to town on Friday for game 1 of a 3-game series. These teams played one another just last week in D.C., and it ended in a split series. Since then, the Nationals took 2 out of 3 games from the New York Mets at home and Friday brings a starting pitching rematch from August 16, with Taijuan Walker and Cade Cavalli taking the mound for their respective ballclubs. The Nats won that August 16 game in what ended up being a low-scoring pitcher’s duel. Cavalli tossed 7.0 scoreless-innings with 5 strikeouts and 7 hits scattered throughout, while Walker surrendered 2 earned runs in the bottom half of the fifth after a 2-run double off the bat of James Wood.

Walker finished the game with 3 strikeouts across 6.2 innings and has recorded a quality start in 3 consecutive outings. After posting a 7.10 ERA in 2024, Walker has shown significant improvement in 2025, holding a 3.34 ERA across 91.2 innings. Meanwhile, Cavalli has been rehabbing much of the season for Washington after undergoing Tommy John surgery and has just 3 outings under his belt, and while he had success against the Phillies last week, I don’t believe he’ll find similar results on Friday. The Phillies had an off day on Thursday, but prior to that, the offense has been red hot. In their last 4 games, Philadelphia has scored 40 runs on a ridiculous 65 hits. With an offense currently producing like that, it doesn’t matter who’s on the mound. Give me the Phillies to get the win and cover the run line on Friday at Citizens Bank Park.
