The month of August has not been kind to the Washington Nationals so far. The Nats are just 1-6 this month and have been outscored 61-23. The pitching staff has struggled immensely, owning a whopping 9.67 ERA and .389 BAA so far this month. Jake Irvin will get the start on the mound in this one, and his road splits don’t warrant much confidence. Irvin owns a 5.06 ERA and .259 BAA in 12 starts away from Nationals Park this season. San Francisco’s offense went through a rough patch at the end of July, but the G-Men seem to be back on track. The Giants have plated a total of 28 runs over their last 4 games. They should be able to keep things rolling against Irvin and a less-than-intimidating Nationals bullpen.

On the other side, Kai-Wei Teng will be making just his second career big-league start for the Giants. Teng’s first start did not go well, as he allowed 5 runs on 4 hits over just 3.1 innings against the Mets on August 2. Washington’s offense should be able to give him some issues. It’s also worth noting that San Francisco’s bullpen has a new look without Camilo Doval. All in all, both offenses could have the edge in this one. Look to the over.
