Without Young dominating possessions, the Hawks have played more connected basketball, particularly on the defensive end. That shift has shown up in the results, as Atlanta enters this game on a three game winning streak despite a lineup lacking household names. Jalen Johnson has taken on a steadier lead role, averaging around 23.7 points and 8.2 assists, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker has emerged as a secondary scoring option at a 20.6 PPG clip. Add in reliable production from big man Onyeka Okongwu and strong interior defense, and this version of Atlanta has become far more competitive than public perception suggests, especially on the road.

The Lakers, meanwhile, appear to be searching for an identity. Once a high powered offense capable of overwhelming teams at home, Los Angeles has slipped down the standings and is now riding a three game losing streak, capped by a disappointing loss to Sacramento last night. Given the scheduling spot, Atlanta’s defensive improvement, and the Lakers’ current instability, the value lies with the road team.
