Reasoning

The Houston Rockets will visit the Atlanta Hawks tonight with both teams on the back end of a back-to-back set. The Rockets have not been involved in many high-scoring games of late, with 6 of their last 8 games coming in under the combined 224-point mark. The Hawks have been involved in 4 such games during that stretch. Both teams have seen a drop in points per game when playing with no night’s rest, so do not expect explosive scoring from either side. They also look set to be missing rotation players too, with Dorian Finney-Smith and Tari Eason absent for the visitors and Zaccharie Risacher and Kristaps Porzingis out for the hosts. Onyeka Okongwu is questionable, too. Both offenses should be impacted with these absences.

The Rockets tend to slow play down, considering that over the last 10 games, they are 26th in the league in pace. With fatigue being a factor for both sides, expect this to turn into a half-court battle. The hosts continue to lean heavily on Jalen Johnson to influence all areas of the game, but he will find himself with a very difficult matchup whenever Amen Thompson switches onto him. The Rockets star is a terrific on-ball defender and will be able to pressure the man making the Hawks offense tick. That should help keep the scoring down tonight.
