The Golden State Warriors will get another shot at closing out the Houston Rockets — this time at home — when this Western Conference first-round playoff series continues on Friday night. These 2 teams have played back-to-back relatively high-scoring affairs. The Warriors took control of the 7-game set with a 109-106 victory at the Chase Center in Game 4 before the Rockets stayed alive by dominating 131-116 in Houston on Wednesday. For Game 1, the over/under was 213, and following a massive adjustment for Game 2 (204.5) it has not really changed at all (between 203 and 205 for every contest thereafter). With no adjustment back to a higher number, my Rockets vs Warriors pick is Over 203.5.
Wednesday’s showdown produced 247 points even though Steph Curry scored only 13 on 4-for-12 shooting. The Warriors have been getting plenty of help from their role players in support of Curry and Jimmy Butler, namely from Buddy Hield, Brandin Podziemski and Moses Moody. Hield has contributed at least 15 points in 2 of the last 3 outings, Podziemski went for 26 in Game 4 and Moody delivered 25 in Game 5. Meanwhile, the Rockets got double-figures from all 5 of their starters on Wednesday — including 3 guys with at least 24. In other words, all kinds of guys are stepping up in this series. Most importantly, it’s hard to see Curry being quiet twice in a row. I’m expecting fireworks on Friday, so let’s back the Over with plenty of confidence.
