Pelicans vs Mavericks Pickswise Expert Predictions

Point Spread Pick
DAL Mavericks Win -7.5(-110)

The New Orleans Pelicans picked up their first win of the season last night by taking down the Charlotte Hornets. Tonight, however, they will face a much tougher task as they travel to take on the Dallas Mavericks on what is a second night of a back-to-back set. Both teams will be without their star players however, with Anthony Davis and Zion Williamson both set to miss the game. The Mavericks do seem to have the better depth of the 2 teams as they had PJ Washington step in for Davis in their last outing and drop a 29-point and 12-rebound double-double. Combine that with the stellar play of Daniel Gafford and the number one pick in last draft Cooper Flagg, and the hosts should have the tools to do damage tonight.

Advanced statistics support the fact that the Pelicans have been by far the worse team this season, ranking 29th in the NBA in net offensive and defensive ratings. They should continue to struggle to get stops tonight with fatigued factoring in. The Mavericks are 4th in the league in pace so should be well positioned to take advantage of those tired legs. The Pelicans are also just 25th in the league in opponent fast break points per game so look for the hosts to build their game plan around getting out in transition. Take the hosts to cover with ease in this one.

Pelicans vs Mavericks prediction: Mavericks -7.5 available at time of publishing. Playable to Mavericks -8.5.

Like most Lithuanians, I started watching basketball from the age of six. I'm based out in London and played basketball at the University of Lincoln here in the UK. I had always had an interest in the NBA but things really took off in the summer of 2010. That year Linas Kleiza led Lithuania to 3rd place at the World Championships and signed with the Toronto Raptors to replace the departing Chris Bosh. I've been a Raptors fan since that day and I've not missed a game since. I've been handicapping games for more than a decade, specializing in player props.
