Reasoning

The Oklahoma City Thunder will be looking to finish off what has been a thrilling Western Conference semifinal series against the Nuggets when Game 6 takes place in Denver on Thursday night. Although the Nuggets once held leads of 1-0 and 2-1, the Thunder have pulled ahead with back-to-back victories in Game 4 and Game 5. Based on their regular-season dominance and also on the last 2 contests, it is clear that the Thunder are the superior side. That being said, I’m not inclined to give the Nuggets 4.5 points at home. As such, I’ll look toward the game total and go with Over 216 for this Thunder vs Nuggets prediction. This is by far the lowest listed total of the series. It climbed as high as 232 for Game 3 and previously had not been lower than 221.5. Based on the massive shift, the value is now firmly on the Over.

It is true that lower-scoring affairs have developed over the last 3 games, but let’s not forget that the series opener was a 121-119 win for Denver and Game 2 saw Oklahoma City prevail 149-106. These 2 teams feature the 2 best offensive players in basketball — Nikola Jokic of the Nuggets and soon-to-be NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder. Jokic is averaging 30.0 ppg during this series and has exceeded the 40 mark twice; SGA has scored more than 30 points 5 times in the past 7 outings dating back to round 1 against Memphis. When you consider the help that Jokic has been getting in these playoffs (Denver has 5 guys averaging in double-figures, including Jamal Murray at 22.3 ppg and Aaron Gordon at 17.8 ppg), you have to be impressed with the overall offensive firepower. I’m backing the Over.

To start off our Nuggets vs Thunder Same Game Parlay, I’m taking the Nuggets on the money line. Denver has to be absolutely kicking itself that it didn’t win Game 4, in which Oklahoma City trailed by 6 entering the 4th quarter. To make matters worse, the Nuggets led by as many as 9 points in the 4th quarter in Game 5, before the non-Jokic players on the roster shot 1-of-15 in the final quarter of that pivotal contest.

However, while Denver’s lack of depth has been a major issue of late, I do believe that the Nuggets will get much better shooting out of their role players at home, much like we saw in Game 3. After all, It would be hard for the likes of Russell Westbrook and Michael Porter Jr. to play any worse, and even Murray and Aaron Gordon were a combined 4-of-18 from beyond the arc in Game 5. We can expect some positive shooting regression for Denver, while Lu Dort likely won’t make a trio of threes in the 4th quarter for Oklahoma City on the road. As long as Jokic has at least a solid game by his standards, the Nuggets are certainly live as home underdogs.

For the second leg of our Thunder vs Nuggets Same Game Parlay, we’re targeting Isaiah Hartenstein to clear his points+rebounds prop once again against the Nuggets. Oklahoma City’s valuable offseason acquisition has looked the part on both ends in this very difficult matchup against Jokic, plus he’s also making positive contributions on the offensive end with putback layups, dunks and that signature floating push-shot he’s developed over the years. On top of that, Hartenstein has cleared this line in his last 8 games against the Nuggets, so I’ll bank on that trend continuing in Thursday’s contest to bring home our SGP.
