Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 10/22/25

The Boston Celtics get set to open their season on Wednesday night at TD Garden when they host the visiting Philadelphia 76ers. Boston and Philadelphia have plenty of question marks heading into the 2025-2026 season and the future odds for the Eastern Conference winner places 5 teams ahead of them, with the Sixers and Celtics both sitting at +1200 to represent the East in the NBA Finals. Philadelphia is coming off a disappointing 24-58 record last season, but much of that can be attributed to the fact that its Big 3 of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George shared the floor just 15 times in total. This team doesn’t lack talent whatsoever, and it mainly comes down to the health of its star players. Unfortunately for the Sixers, health issues are already impacting the first game of the season; George will be sidelined Wednesday as he continues to recover from left knee surgery.

For the Celtics, this season marks the first time over the last few years in which championship expectations are quite low — and understandably so. Jayson Tatum likely won’t return until February and Boston completely dismantled its roster. Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday were traded away, while Anfernee Simons was acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers. Jaylen Brown is questionable with a left hamstring strain, so there’s a possibility that Boston’s opening-night starting 5 features just 1 lone starter from last season in Derrick White. With Tatum out for a significant amount of time and the Celtics seemingly having to play around with lineups to begin the season, I’m backing the Sixers to keep this game within reach while leaning on Embiid and Maxey. Give me Philadelphia and the points.
