Another game against the defending champs and another win for the San Antonio Spurs. Victor Wembanyama had 22 points and 14 rebounds in just 28 mins played to propel the Spurs to their 4th win in 5 meetings with the defending champs. Now, the Spurs to turn their attention quickly to the Mavericks, as they clash in Dallas on a 2nd night of a back-to-back scenario. As we’ve seen this season, this shouldn’t be too problematic for San Antonio, as they have a winning 6-3 SU record in games with no rest. On top of that, they’re 3-1 SU in their last 4 games overall, doing solid work on the defensive end and allowing 106 or less points in the 3 wins.

Meanwhile, the Mavs made headlines yesterday by trading away Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards, sending out a clear signal that they’ve given up on the idea of pairing him, Kyrie and Cooper Flagg as their 3 main players moving forward. Instead, the Mavericks would be smart to tank the rest of this season in hopes of getting a high pick in the draft. Their 5-game losing streak is the perfect strategy to achieve just that. Aside from Flagg going nuts offensively over the past 3 games, this team really has not much else to offer. They suffered a tough 125-92 loss in the first meeting against the Spurs back in October in the season opener, and going into Thursday’s clash, they’ve won just once in 5 home games overall, as well.

This is the first game of a back-to-back scenario between these teams, and as much as I like what I’m seeing from Cooper Flagg lately, I’m afraid the Mavericks simply don’t have enough to compete on a nightly basis. Yes, they have been able to keep a couple of games close during this losing streak, but the discrepancy in talent is just too big right now. I’ll take the Spurs to cover.
