Point Spread Pick
MIN Timberwolves -3.5(-110)

Last night, the Minnesota Timberwolves picked up a solid win on their home court against the Boston Celtics 119-115. Anthony Edwards led the team in scoring with 39 points, and the victory ended the Timberwolves three-game losing streak. With a home record of 6-3, the Timberwolves will welcome in the San Antonio Spurs to play in Minnesota Sunday night. The Spurs have been playing without Victor Wembanyama, who has missed time with a calf injury. The Spurs have not missed a beat, even with Wembanyama out of the lineup. They have won five of six games played with their star player sidelined. The Spurs last win was Friday night when the Spurs took down the Denver Nuggets on the road 139-136. Devin Vassell led the team in scoring with 35 points.

This will be the first time these two teams will play each other this season. The Timberwolves won three out of four games against the Spurs last season. The Spurs have increased their level of play this season, but they are bringing some notable injuries into Minnesota against a fully healthy Timberwolves squad. On top of the injury to Wembanyama, the Spurs will also be missing starting guard Stephon Castle and backup point guard Jordan McLaughlin. Wembanyama is averaging 26 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists per game while Castle is averaging 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists. This is a lot of production that the Spurs need to consistently cover for and there has to be a limit to the success they can have without these players in their starting lineup. In recent games the Spurs have had De’Aaron Fox, Devin Vassell, and Julian Champagnie all step up for the team, but the Spurs lack in size could prove to be a disadvantage against the big lineup Minnesota has. Spurs center Luke Kornet will need to handle the two seven-footers in Rudy Gobert and Naz Reid. On top of that, the Timberwolves have Julius Randle and Jaden McDaniels. Both of those players can create a size advantage above Champagnie and Harrison Barnes. I think the Spurs miss their star players tonight against Minnesota as the Timberwolves win their second straight on their home floor.

Timberwolves -3.5 is available at the time of publishing. Playable at that number.
