The Chiefs’ game against the Jets probably won’t be the most competitive matchup on Sunday Night Football this season — we have to hope so anyway — but there is no shortage of storylines to keep things interesting.

The Super Bowl champions are still in the process of restoring their reputation after their Week 1 loss to the Lions, even though that result doesn’t seem too bad now given Detroit’s 3-1 start. Kansas City got back on track with a win over the Jaguars and a cruise against the Bears that was so one-sided that most interest was focused on one of the spectators.

The Jets’ plans for the season fell apart on their first drive as QB Aaron Rodgers was injured, and though they beat the Bills in that game, their offense has looked awful in losses to the Cowboys and Patriots. I’ve picked out a TD scorer play I like for each team in this week’s SNF matchup, even though it would be understandable if anyone prefers to just pick Chiefs players.

Travis Kelce, TE, KC (-130 at DraftKings)

It’s almost as hard to get away from Travis Kelce as the most likely touchdown scorer in this game than it is to escape news stories about the Chiefs tight end and his famous new friend, Taylor Swift. But looking at the records of how these teams have scored and given up touchdowns so far this year, all roads lead to Kelce.

The Chiefs star scored in the beatdown of the Bears, although he wasn’t the team’s first TE scorer this season as Blake Bell had that honor in the Lions game. The Jets have allowed only 4 TDs this year but 75% of those scores were to tight ends, with two different Dallas TEs finding the end zone before Pharaoh Brown somehow rumbled in from 58 yards against them last week. With the Chiefs looking to pull clear again like they did against the Bears, it will be no surprise if Patrick Mahomes is looking for his pal Travis in the red zone again.

Garrett Wilson, WR, NYJ (+280 at FanDuel)

As I said, it’s understandable if bettors prefer to concentrate on Chiefs scorers in this game, but Garrett Wilson has the talent to overcome the Jets’ QB issues if anyone can. The elite WR has managed two scores from his namesake Zach so far this year, even though his overall stats are sadly only a fraction of what they might have been had Rodgers stayed healthy. The only other Jets offensive player to score a touchdown this year is full back Nick Bawden (who is +1700 odds at Caesars this week if you fancy him for another).

The Chiefs have allowed 3 scores while on defense this season, 2 of them to wide receivers including Chicago’s DJ Moore last week, which shows a high-quality receiver can score on them even with a struggling quarterback. That’s the pattern that the two Wilsons may be able to repeat. Garrett Wilson is just +180 odds to score a TD with BetMGM, so the +280 with FanDuel is worth a sprinkle.
