It’s time for the first major of 2023. It’s always the most anticipated week on the golf calendar, and this year the excitement is heightened for many reasons.
The biggest point of contention will be the arrival of the exempt LIV golfers, including former Masters champions Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson, Patrick Reed and Charl Schwartzel. For the first time since The Open last summer, we’re going to see the top players in the world from both sides of the argument go up against each other. There will be plenty of storylines to monitor throughout the week, which makes this one of the most compelling Masters in recent years.

Jordan Spieth Top 5 Finish (+550 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
Spieth’s putter has been a little shaky over the last few events, but he’s a past champion at the Masters with an additional four top-3 finishes. Plus, there’s some weird voodoo surrounding Spieth and Easter Sunday – Jordan has won on the last two Easter Sundays (’21 Valero and ’22 RBC Heritage). A meaningless coincidence or a twist of fate? I’ll sit on the fence and take him for a top-5.
Xander Schauffele Top 10 Finish (+300 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
Short odds for this one, but I like Xander to contend this week. He missed the cut here last year but has two top-3 finishes in the past. His off-the-tee stats have been in decline over his last three starts but he’s putting so well right now. Plus, he’s gained well over a stroke on the field in approach in five of his last seven starts.

Tom Kim Top 10 Finish (+750 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
Tom is playing in his rookie Masters, but the caliber of talent he’s shown and his ability to adapt under pressure makes him a top-10 pick of mine for the week. He hasn’t had a top-10 finish since January, but with his precision and a solid putting week Kim could be up that leaderboard. He’s also +425 for Top Debutant.
Danny Willett Top Englishman (+700 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
Willett came from nowhere to win the 2016 Masters at 300/1. It doesn’t matter what you do – if you’ve got a green jacket, you walk onto Augusta National with a huge boost of confidence. That performance was no fluke – he plays well here, finishing T12 last year. The Englishman’s game has been in good shape on the PGA Tour this year, and I know this is a week he looks forward to.
