Alex Ovechkin over 0.5 goals (+100)
The Washington Capitals opened the second half of their season by defeating the best team in the NHL. Not only did they take down the Bruins, they also did so in Boston while allowing just 1 goal. They now get to head back to the nation’s capital to keep that momentum going. Another surprising aspect to their win yesterday afternoon was that they did so without Alex Ovechkin getting in the box score. Ironically, it was his longtime assist-man Nicklas Backstrom who got the scoring started.
Regardless, we don’t expect him to be held in check again now that he and the Caps are taking on the San Jose Sharks. They’ll be on home ice taking on a team who have allowed the 4th-most goals per game this season and the 2nd-most in this calendar year. Ove didn’t score against the Sharks last month, but he had 2 goals in the game before. There’s not much that hasn’t been said about the future Hall-of-Famer as he looks set to break Wayne Gretzky’s record for the most goals in NHL history in the next couple of seasons. Don’t expect Ove to be shy about taking his chance knowing he’s facing such a poor goaltending team either. His 224 shots are the 4th-most in the league this season, and we expect one of those to find the back of the net.

Leon Draisaitl over 0.5 goals (+115)
The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to make it back-to-back road wins when they face the Montreal Canadiens this afternoon. They rolled through the Ottawa Senators, while the Canadiens forced the New York Islanders to overtime. However, the Isles’ offense has been impossible to trust this season. That has not been the case for the Oilers, as they’re the highest-scoring team since the start of the new year and are the 3rd-highest scoring team on the road.
Connor McDavid leads the way in those factors, but teammate Leon Draisaitl would be the leader on any other team. Call us stubborn, as Draisaitl has let us down recently, but he’s come through more often than not. That should be the case again today, as he has feasted on Montreal. When Draisaitl and the Oilers faced them earlier this season, he had 4 total points. In fact, he’s recorded multiple points in 4 of his last 4 games against the Canadiens, including 4 goals in that span. He had 2 assists yesterday, but also led the team with a whopping 8 shots on goal. Today should be Draisaitl’s turn to find the back of the net.
