I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. After the entire NHL was off yesterday, every team takes the ice today. That includes a handful of early afternoon games, so we’re jam-packed with action throughout the day. Similarly, that also means a lot of matchups to break down and analyze. It can also be difficult to find spots you love with some teams being motivated heading towards the playoffs, while others are already looking ahead to the offseason. So, we’ve found the best spots in terms of player props to provide value on such a big slate. Below are our favorite NHL player prop bets, and we’re not wasting any time getting started.

Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Nazem Kadri over 0.5 points (-115)

Before we dive into our first play, there’s no denying that there are several great spots today. However, we’re going a bit conservative as we don’t know how some teams will handle their last few games with little to be decided. For example, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs’ skaters look enticing but their first-round series is set in stone. Therefore, we’d prefer focusing on teams and skaters with everything on the line. That includes Nazem Kadri and the Calgary Flames. Their playoff chances looked very slim, but thanks to the recent freefall of the Winnipeg Jets, they’re now tied with them in terms of points for that second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

They’ve been off since Wednesday, which was a win over those same Jets. Now they get to face the Vancouver Canucks, who have allowed the 5th-most goals per game this season and have nothing to play for. Therefore, this is the perfect spot for Kadri to continue his success against Vancouver. Kadri joined the Flames this past offseason after winning the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche; he has recorded an assist in all 3 games against them as a member of Calgary. He also had 3 assists across 3 games against them last season, and their goaltending has declined since then. Lastly, we have the luxury of not being concerned if this comes as a goal or assist.

Connor McDavid over 1.5 points (-170)

No, there’s nothing flashy about this play. Yes, there is a narrative involved. McDavid is now just 2 points away from the first 150-point NHL season since Mario Lemieux in 1995-96, and recording multiple points is quite a regular occurrence for him. That is reflected in the price with the Edmonton Oilers even on the road. However, there is still more to this than only the narrative. McDavid and company are playing the San Jose Sharks this afternoon, which is an ideal matchup for any opposing skater.

The Sharks were the last team in the NHL to reach 20 wins, which happened just last week. Meanwhile the Oilers are 47-23-9 and an incredible 11-0-1 in their last 12 games. So, not only is McDavid striving for a personal milestone, he’s trying to help his team steal away the Pacific Division title from the Vegas Golden Knights right before the regular season ends. He should be able to help them inch closer, as San Jose has allowed the 3rd-most goals per game this season. As you may have guessed, McDavid has had multiple points in both games against the Sharks this season. Sportsbooks are beginning to bump this up to 2.5 points, but at plus-money, we’d still be comfortable playing it that way.
