I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Monday makes it back-to-back days with just 3 NHL games. However, let’s use this as an opportunity to boost the bankroll heading into a huge Tuesday slate. With a smaller slate, there’s a good chance there aren’t many sides or totals that are truly calling your name. Thankfully we have the player prop market where we can find value. Rather than sweating the outcome of a game, we can simply focus on individual skaters. We’ve broken down today’s matchups and come up with the best plays for you to target. Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action. Let’s take a closer look at my favorite player prop.

Connor McDavid over 1.5 points (-120)

Before we get started, we love both of our player props from Saturday night for today as well. That would be Boston Bruins Brad Marchand to record an assist against a St. Louis Blues team that has allowed the 5th-most goals per game this season. Next up is Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin to go over 3.5 shots on goal, facing an Edmonton Oilers team that has allowed the 6th-most shots per game. However, we want to provide you with some variety as well.

Therefore, let’s dive right into another superstar name in Connor McDavid. He’s on a quest to earn his 5th Art Ross Trophy for the most points in the NHL. He’s won it back-to-back on 2 separate occasions, including each of the last 2 seasons. McDavid is certainly on pace to do so again, as he leads the league with 25 points so far this season. It’s his teammate, Leon Draisaitl, right behind him with 23. That means even more opportunities for McDavid to record multiple points.

The Caps haven’t been terrible in terms of goaltending but did just lose to a terrible Arizona Coyotes team at home on Saturday night. They have a new goalie this season with Darcy Kuemper, formerly of the Colorado Avalanche. With that in mind, it’s worth taking a look at McDavid’s matchups with the Avs last season. He recorded 3 points against them at the very end of the regular season last year, and did so twice against them in the Western Conference Finals. McDavid remains a model of consistency, as he’s hit this prop in 4 of his last 5 games. He should do so again with all eyes on this matchup tomorrow night.
