Best NHL player props for Monday's slate: Barkov primed for a big night

May 16, 2021; Sunrise, Florida, USA; Florida Panthers center Aleksander Barkov (16) looks on from the ice against the Tampa Bay Lightning during the first period in game one of the first round of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs at BB&T Center.

The Monday night hockey schedule gives us 7 NHL games. The action gets started at 7pm ET with 6 games, followed by the lone 8pm ET game between the Los Angeles Kings and St. Louis Blues. For tonight’s slate, we’re taking a deeper dive into 2 of the matchups and choosing 2 player props we think will provide good value and have a great chance of hitting.

Now let’s get to it.

Aleksander Barkov over 1.5 points (+170)

Line available at DraftKings at time of publishing

Aleksander Barkov tallied 5 points in his first 3 games of the 2021-22 season. Since then, he has not found the scoresheet in back-to-back games. That could change tonight as he and the Panthers face one of the worst teams in the league: the Arizona Coyotes. The Panthers are undefeated at 5-0-0 and the Coyotes have a record of 0-4-1. Arizona has allowed 25 goals through 5 games, and they rank dead last in the league in terms of killing penalties. They have killed off just 36.4% of their oppositions’ power plays, while Florida has a potent offense that can make things happen in a hurry.

Playing as Florida’s top-line center and getting plenty of time on the man advantage, Barkov is able to distribute the puck to a number of playmakers. There seems to be a solid chance that Florida tallies a handful of goals in this one, so look for Barkov to have a big night.

Brayden Point over 2.5 shots on goal (+105)

Line available at DraftKings at time of publishing

The Tampa Bay Lightning have lost back-to-back games. Wanting to avoid a 3-game skid, their potent offense should come out firing in a very winnable game against the Buffalo Sabres. As Tampa Bay’s top-line center, Brayden Point figures to be a big part of tonight’s game plan. Point seems to have the hot hand. Despite the losses, he has scored 2 goals and registered 7 shots on goal over Tampa’s last 2 games. He has tallied at least 2 shots in all 5 games this season, while exceeding 2.5 shots on 3 different occasions. Tampa’s offensive sense or urgency should be high for tonight’s contest, and Point should be looking to make things happen.  Consider the over with his shots total.
