Nathan MacKinnon can lead the Avalanche to Stanley Cup glory this season

Sunday brings us 5 games on the NHL slate. One way to make the action even more exciting is with some player props. Nathan MacKinnon over 1.5 points (+128)

The Colorado Avalanche are scoring a ton of goals. The Avs are scoring 4.28 goals per game, which is by far the most in the league. In addition, their offense has been lights-out at home, as their goals per game average increases to 4.91 at Ball Arena. They are firing on all cylinders lately, as they became the first team in 26 years to score 7 goals in 3 straight games on Friday against the Red Wings. The return of superstar forward Nathan MacKinnon is a big reason why Colorado’s offense has been so elite. MacKinnon has registered 9 points (2 goals, 7 assists) in 6 games since returning from a lower-body injury. On the season, he has tallied 19 points (3 goals, 16 assists) in 14 games.

Tonight MacKinnon and the Avs face the Florida Panthers. Florida is on the final game of a 3-game road trip, so they could be dealing with some fatigue. That is not what you want as you go up against the league’s best offense. The Panthers are a tough opponent, but with the way MacKinnon and the Avs are rolling right now, it’s tough to see them sputtering offensively in this one. Look for MacKinnon to keep rolling.

Trevor Zegras over 0.5 points (-122)

Anaheim’s Trevor Zegras is putting together a strong campaign. Zegras has 22 points (6 goals, 16 assists) through 27 games so far this season, and he provided us with one of the best highlights of the season with a unique assist earlier this week. Zegras has a ton of talent and can make things happen in a hurry, which makes him an ideal candidate to find the score sheet on any given night. He has not recorded a point in his last 2 games, but he has gone 3 straight games without a point just twice this season.

Zegras seems to have a solid chance to get back on track tonight against the Blues. St. Louis is dealing with a plethora of injuries in net, as both Jordan Binnington and Ville Husso are on IR. Charlie Lindgren got the start last night against Montreal, which means St. Louis will most likely roll with Joel Hofer or newly-signed Jon Gillies in this contest against Anaheim. Hofer has only 2 career starts, and Gillies hasn’t seen NHL action since 2018. The Ducks were held scoreless yesterday against the Penguins, but they should be able to have a better day in this one, and Zegras figures to be involved. Look for Zegras to find the score sheet tonight.
