Best player props for Sunday's NHL slate: Matthews keeps firing

Sunday not only brings us NFL action, but plenty of hockey action as well. One way we are enhancing the excitement is with some player props. We are taking a look at 2 specific matchups and picking 2 props we think have a great chance of hitting. Along with these props, don’t forget to check out our full game previews for each matchup on today’s slate.

Now let’s get to it.

Auston Matthews over 4.5 shots (+122)

Line available at FanDuel at time of publishing

Auston Matthews missed the first 3 games of this season after recovering from off-season wrist surgery, and it took him awhile to get going. He had just a single goal through his first 6 games, but now he finds himself with 14 goals in 22 games. Matthews has been on fire this week, as he has found the back of the net in 5 straight games. He has tallied 7 total goals in that span.

Matthews has always been known to shoot the puck at a high rate, but he has really increased his aggressiveness during his 5-game goal streak. He has put an average of 5.4 shots on goal per game during that stretch, and he has 16 shots over his last 2 games. In 17 career games against the Jets, Matthews has put 73 shots on goal, good for an average of 4.3 shots per game. With the way that he is rolling right now, look for Matthews to keep an aggressive mindset and back the over on his shot total where there is strong value at +122.

Jakub Voracek over 0.5 points (-138)

Line available at FanDuel at time of publishing

Jakub Voracek is second on the Blue Jackets with 18 points through 22 games so far this season. His great vision on the ice makes him more of a passer than a scorer, as 17 of his 18 points have been assists. His veteran leadership is also very valuable on a young roster. Voracek is giving the Blue Jackets consistent production on their top line, but he has not found the score sheet in any of his last 3 games. This is his longest point-less streak so far this season. It’s only a matter of time before Voracek is back on the score sheet, and that could happen in tonight’s matchup against the Sharks.

Tonight’s game in Columbus marks San Jose’s 5th straight road game, so they could be dealing with some fatigue. Columbus has lost 4 straight games, but all of those came on the road. The Jackets are now back at home, and if they are going to get back on track, Voracek figures to be a key player. Look for Voracek to get back on the score sheet tonight.
