Alexander Ovechkin on the ice for the Washington Capitals

There are only 6 games on for Sunday’s NHL slate, but we’re going to take a deeper dive into 2 of the matchups and choose some player props we think will provide good value and will have a great chance of hitting. The games are starting at 5pm ET with  the final game of the night at 8pm ET.

Along with our player props, be sure to check out our full game previews for tonight’s matchups. Also, be sure to follow our main Twitter account for more daily free picks covering all sports.

Alex Ovechkin over 0.5 goals (+100)

Alex Ovechkin has 12 goals in 14 games. He has the third-most points in the NHL, trailing only Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. This has been one of the best starts to a season in Ovechkin’s career, and tonight he’ll be playing against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He’s scored eight goals in his last 11 games and looks like a man on a mission this season. He’s averaging a team high 5:18 minutes on the powerplay per game, so it’s no surprise he has 24 points in 14 games. As the primary shooter on the powerplay and on the first line, his chances to score are extremely high. He’s averaging 4.5 shots per game and has an 18.8% shooting percentage. If he can get into the rhythm of shooting the puck tonight, he’ll likely add another goal to his season totals.

The Penguins are conceding more than 3 goals per game this season, as well as allowing more than 32 shots on goal. With Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin out of the lineup, Ovechkin’s matchups will be easy. The Capitals are scoring 3.43 goals per game with a lot of help from Ovi, take him to record a goal tonight.

Troy Terry over 0.5 points (-133)

Troy Terry is having a breakout season this year. Since going pointless in the home opener, Terry is now riding a 13-game point streak with 19 points during that stretch. He’s a large part of the reason why the Anaheim Ducks winning games, and he’ll be hoping to keep his streak alive tonight. The Canucks are playing in the tail end of a back-to-back tonight, which should bode well for the Ducks. The Canucks suffered a terrible 7-4 loss last night and they could be playing this game tired and defeated. Vancouver has allowed 3 goals per game and has the worst penalty-kill in the league operating at 62.8%. Meanwhile, the Ducks have the fifth-best powerplay and the second-best shooting percentage in the league. If they can continue their success on the powerplay, Terry will likely be a facilitator on the top unit.

Terry’s point streak has now lasted more than a month and -133 are great odds considering what he’s done over that stretch. If he’s gone 13 games in a row with a point, bettors should have no reason to take this line. He’s a rising superstar in the league and he seems to be the main player in dragging the Ducks out of mediocrity this season. Take him to record a point tonight.
