KBO picks and predictions

Thursday’s 5-game slate features some lopsided matchups that offer value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

SSG Landers vs Doosan Bears ML (-140)

The Doosan Bears picked up a 5-0 win on Wednesday morning against the Kia Tigers and then lost the second game of the doubleheader 3-2 to the same Tigers team. They will now face the SSG Landers on Thursday morning. The Bears are pushing hard for a playoff spot, sitting just 2.5 games behind this SSG Landers team for the final spot. They will start Choi Won-Joon here, who has been more than solid this season. He has a record of 7-1 and his ERA is 3.02.

The SSG Landers will counter with Sam Gaviglio and his numbers are certainly concerning. His record this season is 0-3, but his ERA is 8.87. Gaviglio has allowed more than 2 runs in all but 1 start this season, further showing how he has been inconsistent.

The SSG Landers may have won on Wednesday to move into the playoff picture, but this looks to be a spot to fade them. The Bears have a clear pitching advantage, so Doosan will be the play here.

Samsung Lions ML (-160) vs Kia Tigers

The Lions come into this game having won 2 in a row, and are trying their best to chase down top of the table KT Wiz. Or even just the LG Twins, who sit in 2nd place. The Lions will start Won Tae-In on Thursday and he is having a fantastic year. Tae-In is 11-5 on the season and has an ERA of 2.67.

The Kia Tigers split their doubleheader on Wednesday with the Doosan Bears, meaning they did not make up any ground in the standings. Though this Tigers team is already so far behind that it did not make a huge difference regardless. They will start Lee Eui-Lee in this spot and he has been decent, but not great. Eui-Lee is 4-3 on the season and has an ERA of 3.63. He has struggled against the Lions though, making a fade look like the best option here.

The Tigers’ season has clearly not gone to plan, which could make motivation an issue for them here. The Lions have the better pitcher and are well rested after the rain outs on Wednesday. For that reason, backing the Lions on the moneyline will be the top play.

Hanwha Eagles ML (-110) vs Lotte Giants

The Eagles will look to get back into the win column on Thursday as they will face the Lotte Giants. This could actually be a solid spot for them as they will start Ryan Carpenter. He might be their best pitcher this season as shown by his ERA of 2.98. His record is only 5-8, but for the most part, Carpenter has been very good.

The Lotte Giants had their game on Wednesday canceled due to rain and will look to take advantage of the last place Eagles. However, they will start Seo Jun-Won, who has an ERA of 6.83. He has been terrible recently, allowing 6 runs over his last 5.0 innings.

If there was ever a time to back the Eagles, this looks like it is it. Carpenter is more than capable of putting together a solid performance, while Jun-Won’s struggles have been magnified recently. For that reason, backing the Eagles to win will be the play here.

For those of you looking for bigger payouts, play the best bets as a 3-team parlay which pays out at +431.
