I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Mondays in the MLB generally provide fewer games. However, there’s actually a decent slate today, including a doubleheader. There’s also early afternoon games, along with plenty more all throughout the day. Just as the games get started early, we can build our bankroll nice and early. By predicting if a run will be scored in the 1st inning or not, it takes just 6 quick outs for profit. If snagging some wins in about 15 minutes sounds good, then these are the plays for you! Along with these early plays, be sure to check out our MLB picks for all of today’s games.

Let’s take a closer look at my 2 favorite YRFI/NRFI bets for today.

Toronto Blue Jays vs Baltimore Orioles Game 2: YRFI (-115)

It’s only fitting that we get our early plays started with one of the afternoon games. The Blue Jays and Orioles are playing a doubleheader today, and we’re targeting their second matchup for our first play.

These AL East rivals are all too familiar with each other. That’s proven to be a great thing when it comes to run production in the 1st inning. They’ve played each other 9 times prior to Game 1, with a run scored in 7 of those meetings. Both teams have done their part, so this has not been a case of only one team dominating the other. It also helps that Camden Yards in Baltimore is a hitter-friendly park that ranks 6th for home runs. That’s ideal for the power at the top of each of these lineups. The Blue Jays’ George Springer has the 4th-most leadoff home runs in MLB history, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. led all of baseball in total bases just a season ago.

Those studs will be hitting O’s pitcher Jordan Lyles. He allowed a 1st-inning run in his most recent home start, and was the starter for a 15-10 game prior to that. The last time he faced the Jays, it was actually his lineup that produced 3 runs in the 1st inning. That lineup is led by lefty Cedric Mullins, who will be facing Jays starter Jose Berrios. He’s allowed the 2nd-most earned runs of any pitcher, behind only Patrick Corbin. Number 2 hitter Adley Rutschman already has a double and a homer against Berrios, so there’s a high chance both of these teams end up producing in the 1st inning.

Chicago White Sox vs Seattle Mariners: YRFI (+110)

We won’t have to wait too long for our next play, as the White Sox and Mariners have an early evening game. They’re up in Seattle, so it’s actually mid-afternoon out on the west coast. This is another game where we could see an early run by both teams.

They’ve met for just 1 other series, and there was a run scored in the 1st inning in 1 of the 3 games. However, that was back in April and a lot has changed since then. The most notable would be the emergence of Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez. He became an all-star, went to the finals of the home run derby, and just homered yesterday. Oh, and he also bats leadoff. That means he’ll be the first to face Sox starter Lance Lynn. He’s been better lately, but has been wildly inconsistent. He has a 3-game stretch of allowing 5, 8, and 6 runs. In that span, he allowed a 1st inning run in all 3 games.

Even if Lynn continues to clean up his performances, the Sox lineup has an incredible matchup. They’re facing lefty Marco Gonzales. They hit lefties very well, as they have the 5th-highest OPS against them this season. That’s a rank that should increase after this game. Gonzales had at least a run in the 1st inning of each of his 6 starts in August, whether by his allowance or his team supporting him. He allowed runs to the AL-worst A’s and the Guardians, the 2nd-worst team against lefties this year. If a lineup that struggles against lefties can produce against Gonzales, then Jose Abreu and the Sox certainly can as well.
