I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. After going 1-1 last night, I’m 7-3 in my last 10 YRFI/NRFI picks, so let’s get back to another 2-0 day. There’s an action-packed Sunday ahead, with a full slate of MLB action to go along with the NFL games. The day gets started early with the afternoon games, so it’s only fitting that we have some early plays. By predicting if a run will be scored in the 1st inning or not, we can profit in just about 15 minutes. Isolated just the first 6 outs eliminates a lot of variables throughout a 3-hour long game. It’s a big slate of games, but we’ve broken down the best spots for you to target! Along with these early plays, be sure to check out our MLB picks for all of today’s games.

Let’s take a closer look at my favorite YRFI/NRFI bets for today.

Washington Nationals vs Miami Marlins: NRFI (-135)

Let’s get things started with a matchup that inexplicably let us down last night. The Nationals were able to produce against NL Cy Young-favorite Sandy Alcantara. That was quite a shock, but the Marlins have another starter on the mound who can be just as dominant.

Rookie Edward Cabrera was featured in one of our recent 2-0 first-inning nights. Miami has high hopes for his future, and rightfully so. He’s held the Braves, Mets and Phillies scoreless in the 1st inning in this month alone. Cabrera hasn’t faced the Nationals since June, but they were unable to produce an early run then. That was also when they still had Juan Soto and Josh Bell.

Washington isn’t the only team with a depleted lineup either. The Marlins have been terrible since the all-star break due to injury. Ever since Jazz Chisholm and Jorge Soler were put on the injured list, the Marlins have tanked to the 4th-lowest-scoring team in baseball. On top of that, they’re the absolute lowest when it comes to producing in the 1st inning. Nats starter Anibal Sanchez may not be a young gun like Cabrera, but he held the Marlins scoreless in the 1st inning the last time he was on the mound.

San Francisco Giants vs Arizona Diamondbacks: YRFI (-110)

We’re going to switch gears and actually root for some early fireworks in this game. That’s always more fun and Diamondbacks home games have been great for it.

Coors Field in Colorado gets all of the attention, but Chase Field in Arizona ranks 1st for extra-base hits and 2nd for overall runs. It’s a dome, but in late September they often open the roof. The dry warmth and high altitude helps balls sail out of the ballpark. That’s not what either starter in this matchup wants to hear, as they’re both their teams’ last option. The Giants are starting Scott Alexander, who is a reliever that isn’t even in the rotation. The Diamondbacks have been shuffling around their lineup recently, but Ketel Marte and Christian Walker are the guys to watch out for.

Walker has 36 home runs this season, the 3rd-most in the NL. The Giants have also had lineup swaps throughout the year, but will be facing rookie Drey Jameson. He just made his MLB debut 10 days ago and this will be just his 3rd career start. He’s impressed so far, but his expected numbers indicate that it shouldn’t be expected to hold up. San Francisco’s Joc Pederson has been on a hot streak recently, and both teams are off on Monday. That means all hands should be on deck with each teams’ optimal lineups in action. Neither team has anything to play for, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to try and produce.
