With less than 2 full weeks remaining in the 2023 Major League Baseball regular season, races for division titles and wild-card spots are heating up. Tuesday’s 15-game slate should be a good one, highlighted by Baltimore paying a visit to Houston as those teams look to hold off challengers in their respective division battles.

The YRFI/NRFI market has become extremely popular in baseball betting. After all, you don’t have to sit around for 3 hours (or maybe a lot less now that games are not as long on average!) to see if your wager hits; the satisfaction (or in some cases disappointment) is immediate. It all comes down to the first inning.

Here are my favorite YRFI/NRFI plays for Tuesday, and also be sure to check out all of our MLB picks.

Atlanta Braves vs Philadelphia Phillies: YRFI (-118)

A price of -118 is just about the cheapest you will find on the YRFI these days when Atlanta is involved. The Braves lead Major League Baseball in runs scored by a country mile and they have a great chance to add to those numbers on Tuesday. They are facing Christopher Sanchez, who has been in decent form this year but is automatically a good matchup for the Braves since he is a lefty. Atlanta is batting an impressive .288 against left-handers this season. Sanchez ran into this offensive juggernaut last Wednesday and surrendered 4 runs in 7.1 innings, including 2 in the first.

The Braves are countering with Spencer Strider, so this is the same matchup as last week. After the visitors scored two in the top of the opening frame, the Phillies answered with a run against Strider. That was the only run the right-hander gave up, but it has still been a relatively rough stretch for him. In his previous 2 starts the Clemson product allowed 10 earned runs in 8.2 innings. It should also be noted that Philadelphia hit 5 home runs in Monday series-opening victory, so both of these clubs are more than capable of cashing the YRFI in one fell swoop.

Baltimore Orioles vs Houston Astros: NRFI (-104)

Although Hunter Brown has been far from spectacular for Houston, he has pitched clean first innings in 4 consecutive starts. The right-hander now faces a Baltimore squad that is averaging just 0.35 runs per first inning this season, ranking near the bottom of Major League Baseball in that department.

Kyle Gibson is toeing the rubber for the Orioles and he appears to be heating up at just the right time with playoff baseball on the horizon. Gibson has delivered quality starts in 2 straight appearances and in 3 of his last 4. He has pitched to the NRFI 4 times in succession. The Astros crossed the plate once in the first inning of Monday’s series opener, but prior to that they had gone 4 games in a row with scoring in the opener.
