MLB Playoffs ALDS Seattle Mariners vs Houston Astros Game 1 predictions: Same game parlay at +310 odds

Houston Astros catcher Martin Maldonado (15) celebrates with designated hitter Jose Altuve (27) after hitting a grand slam during the second inning against the Oakland Athletics at Minute Maid Park.

The Seattle Mariners will travel to Houston to take on the Astros in Game 1 of the ALDS. The Mariners swept the Toronto Blue Jays in a 3-game series in the Wild Card round, which very few people besides Mariners fans expected, and have an uphill battle against the juggernaut that is the Astros. Justin Verlander will start for Houston and he will be opposed by Seattle’s Logan Gilbert, so without further ado, here’s our +310 Same Game Parlay!

Let’s take a closer look at each leg of our same game parlay.

Houston Astros -1.5 (+120) over Seattle Mariners

This is my best bet of the day, so I might as well include it in my Same Game Parlay. It should come as no surprise that the Astros will open Game 1 with future AL Cy Young champion Justin Verlander. Verlander had an outstanding regular season, posting a 1.75 ERA and 2.66 xERA in 175 innings. In the second half of the season, he had a 1.51 ERA and held hitters to a .170 batting average, showing that he only grew better with time. The Astors have been off since last Wednesday while the Mariners were in Toronto playing two high-leverage games, so not only does Houston have the pitching and hitting, but they also have the travel and rest advantage.

Every Houston reliever is as fresh as can be, and that goes for their lineup as well, so a fully rested Astros team is a dangerous thought. The Mariners are riding high into the ALDS, but they will run into a brick wall that is the Houston Astros. Back Verlander and the Astros for a multi-run win on Tuesday.

Jose Altuve 2+ bases (+130)

Houston’s leadoff man Jose Altuve did not play in the last game of the regular season because he went 3-for-3 the day before and raised his season batting average to .300. He finished the regular season on a tear as he hit .429 in his last 7 games and .408 in his last 15 games. He will face Logan Gilbert in Game 1, and there have been very few hitters that have had the success Altuve has had against Gilbert this season. The second baseman is 8-for-19 (.421), including 5 doubles and a home run, against Gilbert in his career. That’s a ridiculous .842 slugging percentage, and since he’s the leadoff man, he will likely get at least 4 at-bats. Altuve should lead the Astros to a Game 1 win.
