The clock is winding down on the regular season very quickly but there is still plenty that has to shake out in the playoff picture. Fans are in for a treat for the final week and a half of the regular season. Thursday’s slate sets up well to contribute to that chaos. Several teams are suited up that are either trying to fend off opponents from their playoff spot or are on the outside looking in trying to break into the playoff picture. A couple of early games will be a good appetizer to a solid night of baseball.

Milwaukee Brewers ML over St. Louis Cardinals & Over 8.5 (+250)

This line opened with the Cardinals as the favorite and although it has moved, the odds are virtually a coin toss for the money line. That is great value to take a likely division-winning Milwaukee team over a basement dweller St. Louis team. The Brewers are 5-2 in their last 7 games including out scoring the Cardinals 15-6 and taking 2 out of 3 in this series. Milwaukee has great value to win this 4-game series on Thursday.

The over has hit in 6 out of the Brewers’ last 8 games on the road, as well as in 4 out of the Cardinals’ last 6 games and in 6 out of their last 8 at home. The starting pitching matchup gives those overs trends a good chance to continue, as Wade Miley will start for the Brewers and Miles Mikolas will start for the Cardinals. Miley has been decent overall but has allowed 8 earned runs in his last 15.2 innings pitched. Mikolas has allowed 10 earned runs over his last 2 starts as part of a tough month-long stretch. The over is a good addition to the Brewers money line.

Toronto Blue Jays ML over New York Yankees & Under 7.5 (+290)

This is another game with plenty of value considering the better team is the outright underdog. The Blue Jays, who are in a playoff spot, are getting plus money outright against a Yankees team that is 9 games worse in the standings. Toronto has won 5 straight games, including 2 against New York by a combined score of 13-2. The Yankees have dropped 3 straight and are likely the favorite due to Gerrit Cole being on the mound. Their advantage with Cole should be neutralized by Toronto starter Jose Berrios.

The pitching matchup of Berrios vs Cole is the primary reason the under has appeal in this game. Of course, it is all but a formality that Cole will do his part in contributing to a low total. But his counterpart Jose Berrios has pitched fantastically lately. He has shown plenty of upside in his career and has reverted to solid form in September. In his last 3 starts, Berrios has allowed just 4 runs in 20 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts. This game has the makings of a pitcher’s duel and low total.
