NHL pick today: Boston Bruins -1.5 over Ottawa Senators (-130), 1:07 pm ET

The Bruins have won 3 straight games heading into today’s matchup with the Senators, so they continue to play terrific hockey and should be able to carry that success over into this game. Boston ranks 2nd in xGF% and is particularly dominant on the defensive end, ranking 2nd in xGA per 60 minutes.

The Bruins’ suffocating defense should be able to slow down an Ottawa team playing its second game in as many nights, and fatigue could be a major issue for the visitors. On normal rest, the Senators might be able to put up a strong fight against their division rivals, but their tough scheduling spot combined with Boston’s dominance gives the Bruins a huge edge. For that reason, backing the Bruins on the puck line will be the play.

NHL pick today: New York Rangers ML over Winnipeg Jets (-170), 7:00 pm ET

Fans of both the Jets and Rangers could argue that tonight’s matchup could be a preview of the Stanley Cup Final. Both teams look set to be in the postseason and are beginning to catch their division leaders. These teams met during the first week of the season with Winnipeg getting the best of New York. However, that game was in Canada and with the Rangers on the second night of a back-to-back.

Not only will the Rangers be back in New York, but this time the Jets will be the ones on the second night of a back-to-back after taking on a very strong New Jersey Devils team. That means their incredible goaltender Connor Hellebuyck won’t be available. Even still, the Rangers are returning home after a strong showing in Canada, taking down the Edmonton Oilers and defeating the division-leading Carolina Hurricanes 6-2 prior to their time up north. Because the Rangers are fresh off a few impressive wins, backing them tonight will be the play.

NHL pick today: Pittsburgh Penguins ML over New York Islanders (-135), 7:07 pm ET

These teams played on Friday night, when the Islanders came from behind to score 3 unanswered goals and win 5-2. With the teams being tied on points and currently occupying the wild-card playoff spots, this game is huge for the standings.

Perhaps the biggest advantage in this game is the Penguins’ offense. They have been one of the best teams in the league in generating scoring chances this month, ranking 2nd in expected goals. This potent offense will be facing off against an Islanders defense that appears to have lost its way. In the Islanders’ last 5 games, they have allowed 23 goals and in 4 of those games, the Islanders gave up at least 4 goals. With the Penguins at home and having the edge on offense, backing the Penguins money line will be the play.

College basketball pick today: TCU Horned Frogs -2 over Kansas Jayhawks (-110), 9:00 pm ET

Last week was another brutal stretch of games for every Big 12 team, but especially for Kansas. Over the past 9 days, the Jayhawks knocked off Oklahoma and Oklahoma State on the road before returning home to dispatch Baylor on Saturday.

Now Kansas will have to hit the road for a short turnaround game against a rejuvenated TCU team. The Horned Frogs have Mike Miles back in the fold, and their offense looks completely different as a result, having hung 100 points on a great Oklahoma State defense on Saturday. Given that TCU dominated Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse, I like the Horned Frogs to grab the season sweep tonight.
