Ja Morant Over 27.5 Points (-113)

In his last game vs the Lakers, Morant recorded 39 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists at FedEx Forum back in late February. That was the 3rd time in 5 meetings he’s scored at least 39 points against them, so I’m feeling really good about backing him to go over his total here. Although he hasn’t put up huge numbers since his return from suspension, the mid-season drama appears to be behind him now, so I’m expecting Morant to play a lot more than the 28.4 minutes per game he averaged over his final 8 appearances in the regular season. The Lakers have struggled defending the paint in their last 3 games allowing 54.7 points per game from there, Morant is a player that gets most of his points from that area as well as the mid-range. With this expected to be a high tempo game, I’m expecting at least 28 points from the Grizzlies leader.

Jaren Jackson Jr. to Record 3+ Blocks (-130)

Jaren Jackson Jr. has certainly made his presence felt on the inside this season by averaging 3 blocks per game. He is one of the leading candidates for Defensive Player of the Year honors, and his contribution on the defensive end will be crucial for the outcome of this series. He capped off the regular season with a few monster performances on offense, but I don’t think that will be his main assignment in the first round. The Lakers will look to feed Anthony Davis quite a lot down low, this is where JJJ has a chance to make a name for himself. He’s averaging 4 blocks per game in the last 4 meetings against the Lakers, today’s game should be a high paced one so there will be plenty of opportunities to block a few shots. The Lakers led the NBA in free throw attempts during the regular season, that tells us they like to attack the paint. I wouldn’t be surprised if the refs swallow the whistle a bit in favor of Memphis here as they are playing at home, hopefully that helps Jackson Jr. reach 3 blocks here.

Dennis Schroder to Score 10+ Points (-145)

Schroder would normally be a starter on most NBA teams, but he’s settled for a lesser role with the Lakers behind D’Angelo Russell. Playing against the 2nd unit of Memphis should benefit him, and he’s been putting up solid numbers for LA towards the end of the regular season. Over his last 10 outings, he’s averaging 12.4 points per game, clearing this number in all but 3 games during that stretch. He’s also had some really good games against the Grizzlies in his career. He’s played them 20 times and is averaging 14.2 points per game, only 4 times he failed to get double digit points in head-to-head meetings. Just like yesterday with Tobias Harris, I feel like getting 10 points in a high paced game should be no problem for the Lakers guard here.
