The conference finals could not be more contrasting. Last night the New York Knicks cruised into the NBA Finals after dismantling the Cleveland Cavaliers in 4 games. Out west however, a full blown war is taking place. The San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder are currently tied with 2 games a piece. Tonight’s Game 5 should help determine who will be favored to make it to the NBA Finals.
You can find our NBA Playoff previews here. But first, check out my favorite player props for the Spurs/Thunder game below.
De’Aaron Fox (SA) over 8.5 assists & rebounds (5/7)
The young Spurs guards had real issues with turnovers over the first couple of games, but luckily for them, De’Aaron Fox has come back and taken complete reigns of this team. His influence can especially be felt in the rebound and assist departments. Over his first 2 games back he is averaging 8.5 boards and 5.5 assists, which I expect to continue here. The Thunder are 5th this postseason in 3-point attempts per game while the Spurs are 3rd in opponent 3-point percentage. That should continue to ensure that there are no shortage of long rebounds for the guard to chase down. And considering he did not have a single turnover in Game 4, expect him to be trusted as the teams primary ball handler and playmaker. I would confidently back him to record over 10 assists and rebounds in Game 5.
Dylan Harper (SA) under 0.5 steals (10/11)
Currently in this series Harper is averaging 1.8 steals per game, but that is simply down to an incredible 7 steal performance in Game 1. He has not recorded a steal in any of the 3 games since. That is 63 minutes of time on the court without one. With the return of De’Aaron Fox his minutes have taken a hit too. He managed just 17 in Game 3 and 21 in Game 4. That could really limit hit opportunities to influence the game defensively tonight. The Thunder are also 4th among all postseason teams in opponent steals per game. With Harper coming off the bench too, he will share less time on the floor with Victor Wembanyama. The Frenchman is a major distributor defensively and can force teams into tough passes his teammates can pick off. I expect that the Spurs rookie will not be on the floor long enough to reap the benefits of this.
