There are still a handful of NBA teams who have not yet tipped off their 2021-22 campaigns, including the Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks. These two franchises will probably be forever linked by the Luka Doncic-Trae Young trade, and they will go head-to-head on Thursday night. Let’s take a look at the best same game parlay option for Mavericks vs Hawks, and also be sure to check out our full game preview for picks on the side and total.

Atlanta Hawks -9.5 alternate spread (+235)

Trae Young Over 2.5 three-pointers made (+110)

John Collins to score 15+ points (-168)

Parlay odds: +902

Part of the value in same game parlays, of course, is that all of its components can be correlated if you so choose. That is the entire plan here, Trae Young draining a few threes and John Collins scoring a fair amount of points would obviously work well with a double-digit win for Atlanta. Let’s break down each of the three legs one by one.

Atlanta Hawks -9.5 alternate spread (+235)

The jury is still out on the Doncic-Young trade. Dallas got the bigger superstar at the moment in Doncic, but Atlanta has a star of its own in Young and has been able to build a contending team around him much more impressively than the Mavs have done around Doncic. The Hawks also landed Cam Reddish after receiving an extra first-round pick in the deal. All in all, Atlanta proved last season that it is the far superior team these days.

Head coach Nate McMillan’s squad made a run to the Eastern Conference Finals and that was almost entirely without Reddish and De’Andre Hunter. Those two young players are healthy now, so Atlanta is close to fully loaded for the start of a new season aside from injured big man Onyeka Okongwu. As for the Mavericks, Kristaps Porzingis needs to be better and more consistent sidekick to Doncic. Porzingis will especially have to be on Thursday, because Reddish and Hunter are great defenders whom the home team can throw at Doncic and frustrate him. Atlanta should comfortably win its season opener.

Trae Young Over 2.5 three-pointers made (+110)

Against no opponent did Young attempt more threes per game than he did against Dallas in 2020-21 (9.5). He averaged 3.5 makes against them last season. Young also forked up more than 10 three-pointers per contest in the Eastern Conference Finals against Milwaukee. The former Oklahoma standout will likely pick up right where he left off as he tries to entertain the home crowd in the season opener. The Mavericks were in the middle of the pack in three-point percentage defense last year and in the bottom half of the league in opponents’ three-pointers made.

John Collins to score 15+ points (-168)

Collins absolutely torched the Mavs in two games last year. He averaged 34.0 ppg while shooting 74.4 percent from the floor. Well rested on the heels of the offseason and with Okongwu sidelined, Collins should log a ton of minutes early in the 2021-22 campaign. The former Wake Forest star played well in the playoffs, earned a sizable new contract, and is unlikely to slow down at the start of 2021-22. Look for Collins to turn in another big performance at the Mavericks’ expense.
