Phoenix Suns -10 (-110) over Charlotte Hornets

The day has finally come. Kevin Durant will make his Phoenix Suns debut on Wednesday against the Hornets. This is great news for the Suns, who look to be forming another super team in the Western Conference, but terrible news for the Hornets, who lost LaMelo Ball on Monday night. It’s never a great sign when your star player goes down and says “I heard it pop”, and Charlotte’s worst nightmare came true as Ball has a fractured ankle and is done for the season. That injury will more than likely push the Hornets into full tank mode, and it could start with a double-digit loss to the Suns tonight.

Ball was averaging over 23 points per game and was Charlotte’s best shot-creator, which makes it hard for a bench player to take over his role. The Hornets are 7-20 without Ball this season, including losing 7 of their last 8 games without the young star. I expect the Suns to cover this spread quickly and to win by double digits with ease.

New York Knicks -9 (+120) over Brooklyn Nets

If it wasn’t for the Bucks, the Knicks would be the hottest team in the Eastern Conference. They’ve won 6 in a row and 8 of their last 9 games. Their most recent win was against the Celtics, and even though Boston was without Jaylen Brown, it was still an impressive win. Only one team has a better net rating since the All-Star break than the Knicks, which makes this an uphill battle for the Nets.

Brooklyn is at an immediate disadvantage before the game even starts since this will be the second leg of a back-to-back. It will be their first back-to-back in the second half of the season, so it will be interesting to see if any players will join Ben Simmons on the bench. Simmons, the last member of Brooklyn’s “Big 3”, if you can even call it that, has been shut down for the remainder of the season. The Knicks are surging and the Nets have too many obstacles to overcome to stay competitive in this game, so I’m backing the Knicks to win by double digits for the 4th time in 5 games.

Chicago Bulls -9.5 (+150) over Detroit Pistons

The Pistons have embraced the tankathon lifestyle and were without Bojan Bogdanovic, Jalen Duren, Isaiah Stewart and Jaden Ivey in Monday’s loss to the Hornets. To no surprise, the Pistons went behind quickly and were down 20 points after the first quarter. Detroit is expected to get Bogdanovic and Ivey back for Wednesday’s game, but Stewart, Duren and Isaiah Livers will remain out. The Pistons have cemented themselves as the worst team in the Eastern Conference and are in a heated battle with the Spurs and Rockets for the most losses in the NBA. They’ve lost 8 of their last 9 games, and 5 of those defeats have come by double digits.

They face a Bulls team who are on the second leg of a back-to-back, which is about the only advantage that Detroit has. But Chicago has been exceptional in the second half of the season thus far, beating both the Nets and Wizards while holding them to a combined 169 points. The combination of the lackluster Pistons offense and the surging Bulls defense should keep Detroit around 100 points. I’m confident that the Bulls can do enough for a double-digit win against one of the worst teams in the association.
