I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Before we head into our giant 13-game Saturday, we have a casual 5-game Friday night. It’s a nice appetizer for what should be a great weekend, and we have already cashed an NHL mega parlay this week. Some of Friday’s matchups could go play a pivotal role come playoff time, such as the Stars vs Wild matchup in Minnesota. We aren’t headed there for our 3 favorite plays, but we are getting started with a Metro Division rivalry. It’s the first puck drop of the night, so let’s get into it.

Along with our NHL mega parlay, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for the action.

New York Islanders 3-way ML (+140) over Pittsburgh Penguins

The aforementioned Metro Division rivalry is one that takes place in New York. It’s the Islanders in their new arena looking to take down the Penguins for the 2nd time this season. The first matchup was a rather convincing one, which was New York winning it 5-1. That was also a game in the Big Apple, and this will now be the Pens’ 4th straight road game. They are coming off a win, but their time out west was not perfect.

The game prior to their most recent one was an embarrassing 6-0 loss to the Kings. On top of that, Pittsburgh needs to worry about an even tougher matchup less than 24 hours after this one. The Penguins head back to the Steel City to take on the Devils, who have been one of the most consistent teams all season. We may not see as dominant a win as the 5-1 victory at the end of December, but the Islanders can take down a Pens team in a lookahead spot.

Ottawa Senators -1.5 (+105) over Chicago Blackhawks

I’m keeping things in the Eastern Conference but headed to an Atlantic Division team. That would be the Senators, who hosting the Blackhawks. Chicago just got smashed by Toronto 5-2 on Wednesday. After allowing a goal 9 seconds into the game, they went on to lose by 3. That has been a recurring theme for the ‘Hawks, as they are just 1 point above the Blue Jackets for the worst record in the NHL. Things have been particularly bad of late.

Prior to that result agains the Leafs was a 4-0 shutout loss to a bad Montreal team and a 4-1 loss to Winnipeg. Being outscored 13-3 in the last 3 games provides plenty of confidence for the Sens to cover the puck line against them tonight. On top of that, this will be the first revenge game for Alex DeBrincat. Chicago traded away the winger in the offseason for multiple draft picks, and his absence has clearly been felt. Along with the addition of Claude Giroux this past offseason, Ottawa is trending in the right direction. The Senators may not be a playoff team, but they can take care of business against the Blackhawks.

Edmonton Oilers 3-way ML (+130) over New York Rangers

Let’s head out west to wrap up the night. These are 2 teams they very well may be providing us with a Stanley Cup Finals preview. The Oilers made it to the Western Conference Finals last season, while the Rangers did the same in the East and fell just 2 games shy of the ultimate final series. Edmonton still has Connor McDavid and New York remained largely intact. That should provide a great matchup tonight, but I’m backing the team on home ice.

The Oilers are coming off a rough loss to the Red Wings in a shootout. However, they out-shot the Wings 45 to 23 and largely looked in control of that contest. It certainly doesn’t hurt that they have also already defeated the Rangers this season. That was a meeting in New York, so getting the Rangers in the midst of a Canadian road trip is also an added plus. They are headed to Calgary for another late game on Saturday. We may have to sweat out this final leg late into the night, but McDavid and company should make it worth the wait.
