Florida Panthers ML over Minnesota Wild & over 6.5 (+260)

The Panthers and Wild met a few weeks ago in a game that Florida won 5-3. The Panthers have played good hockey recently and are trying to get closer to their President’s Trophy-winning form from last season. They are 7-3-2 in their last 12 games while the Wild have 3 wins in their last 9 games. Minnesota has a -12 goal differential over that span. They will have an uphill battle on Monday against this Panthers team that is playing well and scores the 6th-most goals per game in the NHL. The Panthers are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 and the Wild are 1-9. Florida has already shown to be a tough matchup for Minnesota and continues to be a reliable play.

The over has been prevalent in Panthers games this season. The over is 31-24-4 for Florida including 15-11-3 on the road. The total has gone over in 9 of their last 10 games and in 4 of their last 5 on the road. They score at a consistent clip but also rank bottom 10 in the NHL in goal prevention. That mix of team strength and weaknesses is a good recipe for overs and has cashed this season. The Panthers should do their part in contributing to a high total while leaving the door open for the Wild to pop a few as well. The over comfortably hit the last time these teams faced off, and looks good again in this one.

Detroit Red Wings vs Vancouver Canucks over 6.5 (-125)

This is the 2nd of a back-to-back between the Red Wings and Canucks. Detroit beat Vancouver on Saturday 5-2 and they have a good chance to repeat those results on Monday. The Canucks have not yet found an identity really all season, but particularly under their new coaching staff. They have either scored or allowed 5+ goals in 6 of their first 7 games with their new personnel. Vancouver’s game totals have averaged 7.86 over that span as they have been very volatile. The Canucks score a respectable 3.34 goals per game which is good for 9th in the NHL. They also allow the 2nd-most goals per game in the league at 3.98. That average game total of 7.32 has held true with no signs of changing trends.

Whether the Canucks are scoring goals in bunches or allowing goals in bunches, they should do their part in contributing to a high total. The Red Wings hung 5 on the Canucks on Saturday so they have already shown that they can score on this Vancouver team. Even if they don’t quite get back up to 5 goals, the over still has a good look considering their goal prevention is not very good. Both teams score at a clip conducive for hitting overs while also not particularly excelling in preventing goals. Those strengths and weaknesses make for a pure matchup that looks great for another over. Regardless of the winning team, recent trends and team styles bode well for a high total.

Buffalo Sabres vs Los Angeles Kings over 6.5 (-125)

This is another game where the teams have a strength of goal scoring and weakness of goal prevention. Again, that bodes very well for the over. The Sabres rank 3rd in the NHL in goals scored per game and they have the 5th-best power play. On the defensive side of the puck, the Sabres rank 24th in goal prevention, have the league’s 4th-worst penalty kill and allow the 9th-most goals 5 on 5. That combination of great scoring and weaker defense and goaltending is the main reason the over is 28-22-1 for Buffalo this season including 13-11 on the road. The Sabres shut out the Kings 6-0 in their lone matchup this season. They have already shown they can score in bunches against Los Angeles and will look to repeat that performance.

The Kings have scored 10 goals in their last 2 games. They have also allowed 5+ goals in 2 of their last 3 games, and in 4 of their last 9. The over has hit in 4 of their last 5 games, and in 4 of their last 6 at home. With that, the over is 28-21-5 in Kings games this season. Both of these teams are in contention for a playoff spot and looking to keep pace. These are a valuable 2 points for both the Kings and Sabres, more so for the Sabres. They will each likely lean on what makes them successful. For both teams, that is offensive production. This is yet another game that looks great for the over.
