Stars/Blue Jackets under 5.5 (-134)

Kings/Blues under 5.5 (-104)

Parlay odds: +1094

We’re getting crazy and going with 4 totals for this one.  Let’s break it down one leg at a time:

Lightning/Sabres under 6 (-106)

Tampa Bay has played in games that saw fewer than 6 goals scored in 2 of their last 3 contests. As for Buffalo, they have played in games in which fewer than 6 goals were scored in each of their last 2 games (the Sabres scored only once in each of those games), and 3 out of 5 games overall. Look for that trend to continue.

The Sabres won’t want to get into a high-scoring game against the high-powered Lightning, and with Tampa Bay having the best goalie in the league, Buffalo could really struggle to score.  Look for the under to hit in this game.

Maple Leafs/Hurricanes over 6 (-126)

The Hurricanes are scoring goals in bunches to start the season and riding the hot hand is a smart way to go.  Carolina is 4th in the NHL when it comes to goals-per-game average at 4.50, and are getting production from all their lines. The great goaltending during their win streak could make getting to the over tricky but their opponent should help.

Toronto is giving up 3.17 goals per game, which ranks in the top third of the league. They are also 2-2-1 to the over so far but their last 2 games have combined for a total of 16 goals. Defense is trending poorly in Toronto, so with the Hurricanes scoring like mad we may need the Maple Leafs to score only 2-3 goals to hit our mark. Roll with the over.

Stars/Blue Jackets under 5.5 (-134)

The Stars rank 30th in the NHL with just 10 goals in 5 games. They were outshot by the Kings 45-23, and consistent offensive pressure has been tough to come by. Elvis Merzlikins has been great for Columbus in net, and he seems to have a favorable matchup in this one. On the other side, Braden Holtby has established himself as Dallas’ No. 1 goaltender. The 32-year-old veteran is posting a solid 1.78 GAA and a .950 save percentage in his first 4 games.  Columbus struggled to get anything going on Saturday against Carolina, scoring just a single goal.  With a quality goaltending matchup and 2 struggling offenses, look to the under.

Kings/Blues under 5.5 (-104)

In Saturday’s game between these teams the Blues went 4-for-7 on the power play. Teams rarely take that many penalties in back-to-back games. The Kings will make adjustments, part of which will be cleaning up penalties. They are also without Drew Doughty. Doughty has been one of the focal points of LA’s offense so far along with Anze Kopitar.  Kopitar was quiet on Saturday and the Blues will likely focus on him again. With Kopitar neutralized and Doughty injured, the Kings should struggle to find any offense.

Kings coach Todd McLellan is good at making game-to-game adjustments. LA should play a much tighter and cleaner overall game but they may still struggle offensively, so take the under.
