I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. The NHL has taken a few days off for Christmas weekend, but we’re still keeping an eye on everything for you. Lines and odds have already been posted for the first day back on Tuesday. Given the short break, it’s no surprise most teams are in action and there are 11 games on the board. It also may mean you’re looking to recuperate some funds after spending for gifts, or looking to stock up for some New Year’s Eve festivities. Whatever the case, we’ve already taken a look at the matchups for the first day back on the ice, and have a mega parlay to go along with it.

Before we dive in, be sure to check out our NHL picks for Tuesday’s action.

Boston Bruins -1.5 (+150) over Ottawa Senators

It would be difficult for a fan of any team to argue that the Bruins have been the best team in the NHL through these first two and half months. They’re 27-4-2, with the next-best record being the Carolina Hurricanes with 5 fewer wins at 22-6-6. The New Jersey Devils also have 22 wins, and the Bruins beat them in their most recent game. While they’ve been absolutely incredible at home with an unheard-of 18-0-2 record at TD Garden this season, Boston’s win over the Devils came on the road.

That’s why it’s very surprising to be getting such a great plus-money price for this play. They’ll be up in Canada, but it’s not as if Ottawa has been a feared opponent this season. The Senators are in last place of the Atlantic Division, which is where the Bruins reign supreme. Boston has already handled the Sens once this season, scoring 7 goals in the process. That was arguably the Bruins’ worst goaltending game allowing 5 goals themselves, but that has been few and far between. They’ve allowed just 2.18 goals per game so far this season, by far the best mark in the league. Given they are also scoring the 2nd-most goals per game, there’s simply no reason this game should be priced so favorably.

Vegas Golden Knights 3-way ML (+150) over Los Angeles Kings

We’re headed out west for our second play and don’t need to worry about covering the puck line. Although the Golden Knights are more than capable, we’re still getting a great plus-money price on the 3-way money line. They’ve already defeated the Kings once this season, and can certainly do so again. Vegas remains the class of the Western Conference and despite LA being just behind them in the Central Division, they’ve been far more inconsistent. Their last game before the break was the perfect illustration of that. They fell to a very weak Arizona Coyotes team, scoring just 1 goal in the process.

While they won 4 games prior to that, they needed either overtime or a shootout in 3 of them to do so. Prior to those victories were back-to-back losses to another weak Columbus Blue Jackets team and the Buffalo Sabres. LA lost both of those games by allowing 6 goals, and the Sabres loss was an embarrassing 6-0 defeat. That’s been the Kings’ issue all season – their goaltending. They’re allowing the 10th-most goals per game, and Vegas has scored 5 goals in each of their last 2 games. The Kings allowed 4 goals to the Knights in their first meeting, and that should be enough for another Vegas win against their division rivals tonight.

San Jose Sharks vs Vancouver Canucks – Over 6.5 (-125)

While we anticipate the Bruins and Sabres to score early and often in their matchups, we expect both teams to do so in Vancouver. These Pacific Division rivals may leave a lot to be desired, but that’s primarily been due to their goaltending. The Sharks have been sinking fast, allowing 4 goals per game over the last month, which is tied for 2nd-most in that time frame. The Canucks aren’t far behind, allowing 3.79 goals per game over that span. Therefore, it’s no surprise that San Jose has allowed the 7th-most overall and Vancouver the 3rd-most.

Sometimes these situations line up, but the teams don’t have the offensive talent to exploit the weakness. However, these teams certainly do. Timo Meier of the Sharks is a true sniper, and the Canucks have 5 skaters averaging just below or more than a point per game. Once again, that’s why it’s no surprise we’ve already had high-scoring games between these teams. They’ve already played twice this season, with those games finishing with 7 and 11 total goals. Much like 7/11, their nets are always open, which should lead to another high total on Tuesday night.

Note: A previous version of this parlay included a pick for the Sabres vs Blue Jackets game, which has been postponed.
