I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Sandwiched between 2 jam-packed NHL nights, we have just 3 games on Wednesday. However, that’s just enough for us to find the most valuable plays to piece together for an incredible payout. Four of the 6 teams in action are making their playoff push, while the other 2 would love to play a part in ruining those goals. Wednesday’s slate also features the 2 best teams in the Central Division, and one of them leads off our plays below.

Along with our NHL mega parlay, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Winnipeg Jets 3-way ML (+165) over New York Islanders

The Jets and Islanders are both coming off impressive road wins. Winnipeg was down the street in Madison Square Garden and defeated the New York Rangers 4-1 with an absolutely stellar performance by goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. I have been singing his praises throughout the season as he is going for his 5th straight season leading the NHL in saves. The Rangers put a ridiculous 51 shots on him, but Hellebuyck was standing on his head and saved 50 of them.

The Islanders are not nearly as potent offensively, so I’m expecting a strong performance yet again. New York did bolster its roster with the addition of Bo Horvat from the Vancouver Canucks, but it is still a team that will go as far as goalie Ilya Sorokin takes it. He helped the Isles take down the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night, but Hellebuyck is one of a handful of goaltenders that can keep pace with Sorokin. With that in mind, I will back the road team in what should be a low-scoring contest.

Calgary Flames -1.5 (+135) over Arizona Coyotes

Sticking with another Western Conference team, the Flames have not been as hot as last season. For example, they recently fell to the Philadelphia Flyers on home ice. However, I’m going to trust them to bounce back against another weak team in the Coyotes. Arizona is actually coming off a win, too, but that was against the Columbus Blue Jackets — who are tied for the fewest points in the NHL. The Coyotes also needed overtime to win that matchup.

This is a matchup that will likely come down to Calgary goaltender Jacob Markstrom. Arizona’s defense hasn’t been quite as poor recently, so that’s where the Flames will need to excel. They held the Coyotes to just 2 goals in their first meeting this season and that was with backup Dan Vladar in net. If there is one thing the Flames have been consistent with, it’s the ability to not allow many shots. Arizona had just 20 shots on goal in that first meeting and it allows the 2nd-fewest per game in the entire league. That should help Markstrom not take much pressure and keep the Coyotes to just a goal or 2.

Dallas Stars -1.5 (-155) over Chicago Blackhawks

The team the Jets are trying to catch in the Central Division is the Dallas Stars. They have been shining brightest atop the division virtually all season, but Winnipeg is now just 1 point behind. Dallas needs to get back to its dominating ways, as February has not been the best month for. However, facing the Blackhawks on home ice is the perfect recipe to get back into form.

The Stars’ offense has been on point when playing in the Lonestar State, and Chicago will be on the 2nd night of a back-to-back. For a team already regarded as the worst in the NHL, that is not great news for the ‘Hawks. Dallas should have found memories of this matchup, as it scored 6 goals on Chicago earlier this season. That goes along with a dominant defense led by goaltender Jake Oettinger, who has the 5th-most goals saved above expected this season. The Stars also boast the 3rd-best net penalty kill percentage, so don’t expect many goals from the road team.
