Edmonton Oilers ML over Dallas Stars (+110)

For the second straight season, the Dallas Stars have made the Western Conference Finals. If they’re able to advance, it will also be their second time in the Stanley Cup Final since 2020. On the flip side, that has been the expectation for the Edmonton Oilers since drafting Connor McDavid, but it hasn’t exactly come to fruition. Whether it does or not this season remains to be seen, but when it comes to starting out this series, we’re expecting them to take the 1-0 lead.

There are fans on both sides of the rest vs rust debate, and for tonight’s Game 1, we’re predicting that the momentum of the Oilers will help them get out to an early advantage over a Stars team that hasn’t been on the ice for 6 days. That was a double-overtime win over the Colorado Avalanche, so while some rest was certainly warranted, we’d bet that Jason Robertson and company would have preferred to keep things rolling a bit earlier than a week later. Regardless, the Oilers’ elite power play and penalty kill in these playoffs are what should get them this Game 1 victory.

Under 6 goals (-110)

Speaking of the Oilers’ power play, that may lead most fans to expect plenty of fireworks in Game 1. After all, the duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl can score 6 goals in a single period just between the 2 of them. However, the Stanley Cup playoffs are a completely different beast, where the tension is far higher, and teams tighten up. In that aforementioned double-overtime game for the Stars, they won by a final score of 2-1.

That came against a high-flying Avs team, which is on par with Edmonton thanks to the likes of Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. In other words, while we expect the Oilers to come out on top, the elite goaltending Jake Oettinger cannot be ignored. Dallas would prefer to keep things low-scoring as it is, and with Edmonton having the best penalty kill in the 2024 postseason, we’re taking under 6 goals as part of our Oilers vs Stars Same Game Parlay picks.

Evan Bouchard over 2.5 shots on goal (-150)

To wrap things up, it’s time to dive into a player prop. In that regard, we’re going to focus on an Edmonton skater, but not one of the household names. Not only is it a bit more difficult to find value in McDavid and Draisaitl, but Evan Bouchard has also been tearing up this postseason. He’s had game-winning goals both near the end of regulation and overtime, making him one of the primary reasons that the Oilers made it out of their recent 7-game series.

Of course, you can’t score game-winning goals without taking shots, which is something he has not been shy about doing. This postseason, he’s recorded 3.33 shots per game, and in 3 games against the Stars this year, the defenseman recorded 4.67 shots per game. That gives us confidence in making the final leg of our Oilers vs Stars Same Game Parlay picks on Evan Bouchard over 2.5 shots on goal.
