Champions League pick today: Porto vs Inter Milan – Under 2.5 goals (-145), 3:00 pm ET

Inter against Porto has the makings of a Champions League round-of-16 tie that could go the distance with neither side accustomed to losing or giving up many goals. Porto’s season really clicked into gear during the Champions League group stage, as it won its final 4 games of the first phase to claim top spot.

Inter has also looked good in European action, coming through a tough group which also contained Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Only Juventus has more home shutouts in Serie A than Inter this season, while Porto has 8 in this current winning run. For that reason, backing the under will be the play.

Champions League pick today: RB Leipzig +0.5 over Manchester City (-105), 3:00 pm ET

Manchester City has found road wins a little harder to achieve as of late and RB Leipzig has value to at least avoid a home loss in this Champions League round-of-16 first-leg matchup this afternoon. City’s recent EPL win at Arsenal was its only road success in the last 5 attempts in all competitions, and it was held to goalless ties by Borussia Dortmund and FC Copenhagen in the group stage of this season’s Champions League.

City lost a group game at Leipzig last season and now faces a home team boosted by the return of star forward Christopher Nkunku from injury last weekend. The German team has lost only 1 of its last 20 competitive games, and City’s defensive issues — only 2 shutouts in the last 9 games — makes backing RB Leipzig to win or draw worth a play.

College Basketball pick today: North Carolina Tar Heels -6.5 over Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-110), 9:00 pm ET

North Carolina to cover the spread looks to be the play in this game because they are way better than this Notre Dame team despite their struggles. Notre Dame is having a terrible season holding a 10-17 overall record and a 2-14 ACC record. The Fighting Irish have just two wins in 2023 which came against Georgia Tech and Louisville who are ranked #202 and #281 in KenPom’s rankings.

According to KenPom, North Carolina’s offense is ranked #17 in turnover percentage while Notre Dame’s defense is ranked #360 in the same category. Notre Dame does not turn opposing teams over which will allow North Carolina to take full advantage of every possession. For that reason, backing the Tar Heels to cover will be the play.

NHL pick today: Arizona Coyotes ML over Calgary Flames (+165), 9:37 pm ET

This game all comes down to how the Flames have played and the value of the Coyotes. The Flames are ice cold and the stats back it up. Out of their two wins since the All-Star game, only one was convincing, a 7-2 route of the Sabres, a game in which they were down 2-0 at the end of the 1st period.

The other issue with the Flames is they don’t have a goalie who can stop the puck. Both goalies on the roster currently rank 50th or worse, out of 62 goalies, in goals saved above expected since the start of the month. With that said, backing the Coyotes’ money line will be the play against the struggling Flames.
