Since graduating from Davidson (The College That Stephen Curry Built), I have been writing about sports -- just about any and all you can think of! -- and coaching tennis in Atlanta, GA. Beyond the four major sports, I am an avid tennis fan and cover the ATP Tour on a daily basis. Good morning, Pickswise Nation. We have a whopping 16 games on today’s Major League Baseball schedule and this week’s Major League Soccer action is also getting underway. Meanwhile, the NFL preseason is just a couple of days away from kicking off. Let’s break it all down with our latest installment of Wise n’ Shine!

About Last Night

Mets maul Nationals for seventh win in a row
Our best bet of Mets -1.5 over Nationals was an easy winner on Monday night, as New York rolled 7-3 in a lopsided pitching matchup featuring Max Scherzer and Patrick Corbin. The Mets’ winning streak now stands at seven games. In fact, the top three teams in the National League East have won 15 consecutive contests if you combine their respective streaks (Atlanta is at three and Philadelphia is at five).

Deshaun Watson suspended six games
The Deshaun Watson verdict finally came in on Monday: a six-game suspension. Find out how it has impacted the Browns’ futures odds.

Today’s Slate

Rockies and Padres are playing two
With the Rockies and Padres set for a doubleheader, there are 16 MLB games on Tuesday. One of the aforementioned NL East teams is guaranteed to lose because the Braves and Phillies are going head-to-head in Atlanta. Jacob deGrom makes his return for the Mets against the Nats, while the lineup is also headlined by a Dodgers-Giants showdown at 9:45 pm ET on TBS. Be sure to read all of our MLB previews.

MLS makes a midweek mark
There are six midweek MLS games – two today and then four more on Wednesday. Dallas, Seattle, Colorado and the New York Red Bulls are taking the pitch tonight. Be sure to check out all of our soccer coverage.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers ML over San Francisco Giants
9:45 pm ET, TBS

The Dodgers have won 14 of Tyler Anderson’s 17 starts this season, including 12 of his last 13 outings. Therefore they have to be feeling great heading into Tuesday’s National League West showdown against the Giants. Anderson is sporting a 2.66 ERA and ranks in the 83rd percentile in xERA for the 2022 campaign. Alex Wood is going for San Francisco. In two starts against L.A. this year the southpaw has surrendered five runs on eight hits in 9.1 innings of work. The Dodgers are the superior team overall and they will likely have no trouble showing it again on Tuesday night. Read our full Dodgers vs Giants preview.

Stat of the Day

The Brewers are 11-4 in their last 15 games against the Pirates, including 7-2 in their last nine at Pittsburgh. In 13 head-to-head matchups this season, Milwaukee is 9-4 and has outscored Pittsburgh 78-48. In two 2022 starts against the Pirates, Corbin Burnes has allowed just three runs in 13.0 innings while striking out 15.

Quote of the Day

“Just win, baby!” — Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels on how much emphasis he will place on winning in the preseason, albeit admitting that roster evaluation and ironing out of schemes are the most important tasks.
