Golden Knights vs Avalanche Pickswise Expert Predictions

Money Line 3-Way Pick
COL Avalanche Win(-115)

The Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche will contest Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals on Friday night in Colorado. Vegas pulled off a 4-2 upset in the series opener on Wednesday, so you know the home team is going to come out with a sense of urgency in this one. It is by no means a must-win situation for the Avalanche, but at the same time they obviously don’t want to fall into a 2-0 hole before traveling to Las Vegas. The Avs have not suffered back-to-back losses since a 3-game skid March 14-18, so you have to like their chances of avoiding that fate in the playoffs. In rounds 1 and 2 combined against Los Angeles and Minnesota, Colorado lost a grand total of once. There is no reason to think this juggernaut of a club will suddenly lose twice in row. Of its 8 postseason victories, 6 have come in regulation — including 5 by multiple goals. As such, my Golden Knights vs Avalanche prediction is for Colorado to take care of business in regulation.

The Avalanche got within 1 goal late in Wednesday’s contest and had a decent chance to grab the equalizer and force overtime, but the Golden Knights eventually sealed the deal with an empty-net tally. It wasn’t like the visitors dominated from start to finish. In fact, the Avs finished with 10 more shots on goal (38 to 28). It did not help that Colorado was playing without star defenseman Cale Makar due to an upper-body injury suffered in Game 5 against the Wild. Makar’s status remains uncertain, but it sounds like there is a decent chance he will return on Friday. Regardless, though, the Avs’ roster is absolutely stacked. They didn’t win the Presidents’ Trophy with 121 regular-season points (at least 8 more than every other team) by mistake. Following a full week off, Colorado may have been a bit rusty in Game 1. That obviously won’t be an issue for Game 2. Look for the Avalanche to reassert themselves as the best team in hockey.
