Spain comes into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as the favorite to win the gold medal, and they should be able to prove why with an easy win over Egypt in their opening game on Thursday morning.

La Roja have the strongest squad in the tournament, having selected Dani Olmo, Unai Simon, Pau Torres, and Pedri in their squad – all of which featured heavily as Spain reached the last four at Euro 2020.

In contrast, Egypt looks likely to struggle with all bar one of their players playing their club football in their homeland. The only exception is defender Ahmed Hegazi, who plays in Saudi Arabia.

Egypt did win the Under 23s version of the African Cup of Nations tournament in 2019 so they have shown some success and chemistry. And since then, they are unbeaten in four games with a shock victory over Brazil last year included in that streak.

However, the quality of the Spain squad is simply on another level and they should be able to secure a comfortable victory.

The senior Spanish side wasn’t particularly prolific scorers at Euro 2020 but the young team will likely want to make the most of their opportunity and leave their mark in Tokyo, especially with the World Cup on the horizon.
