The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders hit the road for Camp Randall Stadium against the Wisconsin Badgers, and the Conference USA team is looking to put last weekend’s disaster in the rearview mirror. Middle Tennessee suffered an embarrassing 34-14 loss to FCS Austin Peay last week in Murfreesboro, and the Blue Raiders were 0-for-12 on third-down efficiency, while compiling just 153 total yards. MTSU managed just 2.9 yards per pass last week, too, while running for just 44 yards on 22 attempts, or 2.0 yards per carry. The good news is that the Blue Raiders didn’t turn the ball over, but that’s about all the good that came out of Saturday’s game.
For the Badgers, they were able to hold off Miami (Ohio) by a 17-0 score. The win was the good news, but the bad news is that QB Billy Edwards Jr. suffered a lower-body injury. QB Danny O’Neil is preparing to start Saturday. Wisconsin is using a backup QB with limited experience at San Diego State last season while facing a team which was trucked by 20 against an FCS team. Now MTSU must try and solve a defense which pitched a shutout in Week 1. It looks like points will be at a premium on both sides. Despite a very low total, let’s go with the under.
