MLB Picks Today: Expert Predictions & Best Bets for Wednesday, June 24, including Yankees vs Tigers

The week in Major League Baseball continues with a more than full 16-game slate on Wednesday, as the Cubs and Mets are set for a double-header. Wednesday’s schedule is also headlined by Guardians vs White Sox, Phillies vs Nationals and Braves vs Padres.

Here are my best bets, and also make sure to check out our MLB picks for predictions throughout the 2026 season.

Detroit Tigers ML over New York Yankees (-142)

Tarik Skubal is making his third start since returning from an elbow injury. Early returns have been mediocre, with 6 runs allowed (5 earned) through 10.1 innings. On the bright side, though, Skubal recorded 8 strikeouts compared to just 1 walk in last week’s appearance against the White Sox – a 4-3 Tigers victory. Improvement can be expected as the southpaw continues to get back in a groove, and there is no reason to be scared by the Yankees. They had lost 3 straight games before prevailing 4-3 on Tuesday. Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Trent Grisham are all on the injured list. Give me Skubal – especially against a depleted lineup – over Ryan Weathers all day long.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Washington Nationals Over 9.5 (-102)

Backing either one of these offenses is almost always a good idea; backing them when they are both involved in the same game is an even better idea. Unsurprisingly, both National League East teams brought out the bats on Tuesday – Philadelphia prevailed 14-9. Washington leads all of baseball in runs scored with 429, and it is has given up the second-most runs (419, just 1 behind Minnesota). The Phillies don’t score quite that much on a consistent basis, but they do have the MLB leader in home runs at their disposal (Kyle Schwarber with 29). Tonight’s pitching matchup offers no reasons for the offenses to slow down. Philly’s Aaron Nola is sporting a 5.71 ERA and 1.48 WHIP; Washington’s Miles Mikolas is 2-6 with a 5.47 ERA and only 43 strikeouts in 74.0 innings of work.

Toronto Blue Jays ML over Houston Astros (-154)

Toronto will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday’s extra-inning loss and it should have a good chance to do just that on Wednesday. Trey Yesavage taking the mound will probably go a long way in that effort. Control issues are the only reason why Yesavage’s 2026 campaign has only been decent instead of dominant (3-3, 3.76 ERA, 1.16 WHIP), but he encouragingly did not walk a single batter in his most recent start last Thursday at Boston -- a 4-3 win for the Blue Jays. They have won his last 2 appearances, including an 8-5 defeat of the Yankees. Houston is countering with Mike Burrows, who is 3-8 with a 5.79 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. Toronto may not be anything special so far this year, but it is 3 games over .500 at home; Houston is 4 games under .500 on the road.
