Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Diego Padres Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/28/25
Diamondbacks vs Padres Pickswise Expert Predictions
While not my favorite game to bet on for Sunday’s slate of MLB action I do lean toward a win for the Arizona Diamondbacks given current pricing as they take on the San Diego Padres. It is the final day of the regular season for every team across the sport and surprisingly only one of these teams will be making the playoffs. Arizona may regret selling at the trade deadline having now seen the Mets collapse, as they sit just a few games back despite having dealt away Merrill Kelly, Josh Naylor, Eugenio Suarez and others. Today Arizona will start Brandon Pfaadt for his 33rd start of the season. The right-hander enters play with 172.2 innings under his belt this season, but his 5.00 ERA is not an overly impressive mark. Despite his poor season-long mark his recent outings have been solid with 15 innings of 3-run ball in his last 2 starts.
JP Sears also enters his final start of the regular season with an ERA above 5, sitting at 5.12 through his first 130.0 innings. He has only 19 innings with his new club after being acquired from the Athletics at the trade deadline in the Mason Miller deal, but those 19.0 innings have resulted in 14 total runs allowed (13 earned). Petco Park should help his cause, but I am not overly fond of backing Sears given current form.
