Martin Perez is set to make his 2nd appearance and 1st start of the season for the Atlanta Braves. The 35-year-old southpaw hurler is in his 15th MLB season and on his 7th different MLB team, but he was effective in his season debut. Across 4.1 innings of work Perez was able to hold a potent Athletics lineup scoreless with 3 strikeouts and just 2 batters reaching base across 47 efficient pitches. While Atlanta was surely happy to see his effectiveness given their slew of pitching injuries already, I am skeptical that Perez can continue that success throughout the season.

Brandon Pfaadt was on the other end of the spectrum in his first outing, allowing 5 earned runs in his 6 innings of work against the Detroit Tigers. Pfaadt appears to have been a bit unfortunate, however, as he generated a ton of weak contact. Ground balls found holes and resulted in a rough stat line, but Pfaadt is clearly the superior starter in this game, in my opinion. Arizona also should be motivated to tie the series up before their day off tomorrow while Atlanta has to travel to Los Angeles following this game.
