Atlanta Braves vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 04/08/26

The Los Angeles Angels and Atlanta Braves made headlines Tuesday night as baseball fans witnessed their first brawl of 2026. Reynaldo Lopez was throwing high and in on Jorge Soler who took offense to that pitch location. After a few second stare off Soler charged the mound leading to both benches clearing and several punches thrown. Atlanta was able to win Game 2 of this series after Los Angeles grabbed Game 1, and Game 3 on Wednesday is setting up to be an interesting matchup.

Grant Holmes is the scheduled starter for the Braves in this spot. The right-hander tossed 115 innings across 22 appearances last season, posting a 3.99 ERA. That ERA was his best run indicator with other metrics in the mid 4’s. Walks were a major concern for Holmes in 2025, but his ground ball rate and solid strikeout numbers helped him get out of trouble. So far through 11 innings in 2026, however, Holmes has seen a 12.5% drop in ground ball rate and a 6.4% drop in strikeout rate. While still early, Holmes has been fortunate that opponents have just a .172 BABIP against him. That will not continue and I expect the regression to come sooner than later.

Reid Detmers is a volatile but talented arm. When right, he appears as a top end rotation arm with upside to be an ace. When off his game he struggles to find the zone and he can quickly pitch himself into trouble. His upside, however, is what makes him an intriguing option to back when getting underdog pricing. Through his first 11.1 innings of 2026 Detmers has a very strong set of underlying metrics, and in a game where the Braves bullpen is a bit overused, I don’t mind taking a shot on the Angels.
