Connelly Early is the scheduled starter for Boston on Friday, as the youthful southpaw looks to make his 3rd start of the season. He tossed 5.1 innings of 1-run ball against the Reds in his season debut, but his command faltered in the 2nd start with 4 walks issued in 4 innings against the Padres. While still a small sample, St. Louis does have a 128 wRC+ while sitting 4th in wOBA against left-handed pitching this season.

Dustin May was traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Boston Red Sox at the trade deadline last season, but the right-hander posted a 5.40 ERA in his 28.1 innings with the club. May signed with St. Louis in the offseason to fill out their rotation, but it has been a poor start to 2026 as well. In his first start May allowed 10 base hits and 6 earned runs in just 4 innings against the Rays. He followed that up with 9 more base runners and 7 more earned runs allowed in 3.1 innings against the Tigers. Boston has not been performing well offensively to start the season, but this is a nice spot to get right.
